kaylorcc Posted February 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Anybody know why? She’s near McGregor Point on the southwest coast. Very unusual to see her over this way. I snapped a photo, she was there for at least 20 minutes that I saw and was still there a few minutes ago.
rcplanefan Posted February 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2019 My parents are staying in Maalaea right now and said they watched one tender come ashore and then return, and now the ship is moving again. Perhaps an on board medical emergency/evac?
kaylorcc Posted February 15, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Thanks, that would make sense. Hope everyone is okay. It seemed like a strange place for a medevac but I guess they don’t have many options really.
rcplanefan Posted February 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2019 I just talked to them, and they said it was an "orange" tender. They are now thinking it was the coast guard. So they are headed over to the coast guard to see what they can find out. I'll report back if they learn anything.
rcplanefan Posted February 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) This is the photo my mom sent. Solid camera work with the horizon. Edited February 15, 2019 by rcplanefan
kaylorcc Posted February 15, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Hah. I take shots of the horizon here all the time and I’m still pretty bad at it myself.
Mimimatz Posted February 15, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Considering the itinerary was changed (from Maui-Hilo-Kona-Kauai to Kauai-Hilo-Kona-Maui) and that the ship skipped Kahului yesterday, they probably tried to give the passengers at least one day on Maui by anchoring off Lahaina. If I follow the past track at Marinetraffic this seemed to fail and so they tried to anchor in the more protected bay near Maalea, which ultimately also failed. Perhaps an on board medical emergency/evac? I’m a passenger on the PofA now, and yes it was a medical emergency for one passenger. I’m unaware of any details other than they had to be evac’d.
OPSoccermom Posted February 22, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) I was on this cruise. We stopped there to evacuate a sick passenger. Just another unexpected stop in a week full of them. Edited February 22, 2019 by OPSoccermom
