ErLee Posted February 25, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2019 We will be in Juneau from 8am - 9pm. We have a whale watch with Jayleen’s booked for 2:30pm. My question is whether it would be a good idea to rent a car to see the sights before the whale watch or will we really not have enough time to do anything except go to Mendenhall, in which case we’ll just take the shuttle. Thoughts from those who’ve been there?
SuperCrewBear Posted February 25, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2019 You have plenty of time to do some exploring with a car. If there are at least two of you in your group the cost of the shuttle to Mendenhall is about equal to a rental car for the day. You'll be able to go where you like, stop where you want, etc. There is plenty of free parking at Mendenhall. The l last time we were there we drove out to St. Therese, stopped at Mendenhall and walked to Nugget Falls then stopped by the Gold Creek Salmon Bake for dinner plus shopped downtown before returning the car and we didn't have nearly as much time as you'll have. Juneau is very easy to navigate. We rented from Juneau Car Rental the last time and Avis the time before - I had a better experience with Juneau Car Rental... Good luck!
