anyone rented a car in La Rochelle, France?

We are visiting La Rochelle on a Sunday in June.  We'd like to visit the Ille de Re where we have holidayed when the children were young.  Ideally we'd like to pick up a car at the port.  P&O are doing a tour, but we'd rather DIY.

 

I have asked on the French ports page, but didn't see any other posts on La Rochelle.
