I've been shuttled to and from aircraft parked on the tarmac many of times.

Airports consist of runways, taxiways, and ramps.  Aircraft park on ramps.

Tarmac, while commonly used as a term to describe where airplanes are parked, is in fact a type of road surface and is the trademark of Tarmac Limited, a British construction company, that produces the “tarmac” used to surface the parking areas of some airports, roadways, parking lots, etc.

Sailed from LA to Honolulu on the Infinity several years ago.  We were scheduled to tie up right at the Aloha Tower.  I planned accordingly including car rental.  When we arrived the berth was taken and we docked about as far away as you could.  Ruined timing and car pickup became difficult.  Lost lots of time and was disappointed.  They told us the local port authority made the changes.

Ovation of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's large ship that is new to Alaska cruising.  Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.  Perhaps Royal picks which of its ships gets the less premium dock.

🙂

We have not experienced tender issues on our Alaska cruises.  We may occasionally book an excursion through the cruise line in order to guarantee timely sightseeing., but for the most part, we try to depart the ship after lines have subsided and return to the ship at least an hour before the last scheduled tender.
