Southampton terminal... to Stonehenge...to St. Pancras train station

Recommended Posts

Probably not because the traffic getting into central London would be prohibitive.  Getting to the airports only requires motorway travel so you can be relatively sure of transit time.  To drive into central London a) would take longer anyway and b) would be less predictable on transfer time.   But you should be able to get a  private transfer if that is what you want.  Alternatively there are quite a range of train services which arrive at St P.  Might a private transfer from Stonehenge to a suitable mainline station work for you?

Some cruise lines provide transfers to St Pancras, essentially for Europeans heading home by Eurostar.

But I don't know any which offer St Pancras with Stonehenge en-route.

London Toolkit offers a very popular coach tour/transfer from most Southampton cruise ships to London via Salisbury and Stonehenge (90 minutes at Stonehenge) and Windsor. This is a pier-to-door service to most hotels in central London, and that will include hotels in walking distance of St Pancras. So you'd need to figure which is the most convenient hotel - we or London Toolkit can advise.

Whether it will suit your timing is debatable - it's a fairly long day and I'd guess you wouldn't reach St Pancras until about 7.30pm. If you're travelling on Eurostar I believe registration is 45 (?) mins before departure.

The tour/transfer is run by the reputable & well-established International Friends coach operator but offered on the London Toolkit website

Alternatively, the gnome's suggestion of a private transfer to Stonehenge (about an hour), time at Stonehenge (about 90 minutes is ideal), then to Salisbury rail station (about 25 minutes) for a direct train to London Waterloo. The only snag is that you then need to cross central London from Waterloo to St Pancras - the tube is cheap but no fun with luggage and involves one change of tube train, or by a black cab it's something under 3 miles.

A pre-booked direct private transfer ship to St Pancras would cost in the order of £130 to £140, and including a diversion to spend 90 minutes at Stonehenge would add significantly to that. A total of mebbe £200?

How much time do you have?

One way would be to take a train to Salisbury, then catch the HOHO to Stonehenge, returning to Salisbury to catch a train to Victoria Station and then the underground to Kings Cross which is literally next door to St Pancras.

That looks like a major effort though; the simplest (but more expensive) option would be to take a taxi and pay the driver to ait while you go and look at the stones.
