trekking poles

Are there any restriction to the use of trekking poles (for stability) when walking/climbing around any sites or ruins?  These would be the collapsible types and I likely would be using it more like a cane and probably only one instead of two.

I've not seen any restriction - people seem to use them freely.  With the very crowded sites they can be an essential aid to balance!
