thebird Posted April 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2004 I will be on Sensation next month, and wondered what they might offer, and what you would have done for yourself - and recommend trying? This cruise is purely for indulgence and relaxation, so any suggestions for pampering would be appreciated. Not sure what all they offer, and can't find it at steiner's. I want hydrotherapy with the milk, etc. and hair done, maybe makeup for formal night. Maybe a manicure and pedicure. What else is there for the taking? Mucho gracias!! nlt46 Posted April 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2004 I have only had massages. They offer upper body or the back. Both are great. I would not be able to afford all that you speak of so I can't say. One treat per cruse is all I get and that is wonderful. Actually the cruise itself is a treat for me. My friend had her hair styled and it was cute. I got an updo for formal night once. What ever you want that you can afford... go for it. nikki796 Posted April 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2004 with the desired services u've listed, seems u should be able to purchase one of the 'spa packages' that would include several services. in addition to what u've listed, a facial is also wonderful and included in many packages. christygobar Posted April 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2004 My favorite package they offered was the "weary traveler" or the "spa taster" package. For $70, you got an upper body massage + your choice of facial or foot/leg massage. It was a 50 minute thing, but mine ended up lasting about 80 minutes (I chose the foot massage). It was great! I also had a body exfoliation treatment (the body glisten, I think?) which was a nice body scrub then a full body massage. Heaven! A bit more pricey though. kajsb Posted April 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Last year I splurged and did a back massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. Before the cruise I sent an E-mail to Carnival to see if a list of services and prices for my ship was available. I received an E-mail from the provider of the services and it showed everything they offered and the prices. It was great because I was able to plan and budget. NikkiFer Posted April 18, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 18, 2004 My favorite spa splurge so far was the full body massage and being wrapped in foil with seaweed. AAHHHHH, felt soooo good. It was pricey, but ohhh really, it felt GOOOOODDDDD!!!! Nikki (O.A.T.C. & Proud of it!) <marquee direction=right width=45%>Mariner of the Seas 09-19-04!</marquee> Carnival Miracle 02-13-05! kajsb Posted April 18, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Check this out: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Spa_Carnival_Spa_Rituals.aspx They now have a price list on the website. Of course, they say prices may change but at least we get the general idea. And if you want the prices on having your hair or nail done, go here: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Spa_Carnival_Hair_and_Nail_Rituals.aspx Wow! More planning to make. I said I would cut back but the closer it gets to the cruise and the more information given to me, the greedier I get. bethee Posted April 18, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Massages were wonderful but brace yourself for the sales pitches. I personally hate them but was so relaxed the last time I bought an aching muscle massage oil to the tune of $49. What was I thinking of??
thebird Posted April 18, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted April 18, 2004 That's great, Kathy! Thanks! Bethee, I wonder if I told them "I'll think about it, and get back to you." if they'd leave me alone? How do y'all handle the sales pitches? Sensation 5/15/2004
lephysteria Posted April 18, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Hi Yall, As a preview for the wedding, and a birthday splurge, Naren let me get my hair done at the spa. Actually I think he just wanted the peace of mind knowing that he wouldn't have to hear at the last minute how my hair was just "not working!" Anyhow, they shampoo'd, set, dried, and styled my hair. With the 15% tip, it was $40. newbie2cruise Posted April 18, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 18, 2004 wow! I cant believe how much they charge. I am in school for massage therapy and besides doing free ones in my clinic, I only charge 50 for an hour long body massage. I should pimp myself out on my cruises. marcyjane Posted April 18, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Was on the Sensation last May. Last full day at sea, they had most all spa treatments 1/2 off. So treated myself to a full body massage, it was wonderful. Anything you do you will enjoy and it was well worth the money to me. nikki796 Posted April 19, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 19, 2004 marcyjane, very good point. pays to look for spa specials in their flyers or in daily capers. delas and package pricing esp good as she mentioned toward end of cruise and on port days. on one cruise we did spa packages in am then once docked toured port. NikkiFer Posted April 19, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 19, 2004 If you are talking about the Mork and Mindy egg, hubby and I have done it. Hubby really liked it, said that it was the best thing for his back ache. I thought it was ok, I was never really warm enough!! (HEE HEE, I am always cold BRRR!!) Handling the sales pitch is easy, just say thank you for your recommedations but right now I am not interested. They really don't pressure you any more than that. However, I do purchase their muscle ache seaweed packets and bubble bath type stuff. When I have a charlie horse, these products are the ONLY thing that will relieve the pain. Have fun!!! serene56 Posted April 19, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 19, 2004 The best relaxation technique I found was on my own and was for free. SInce no one knew the hot tub in the gym/spa area was there I went there an hour before dinner. Soaked in the hot tub -listened to the music they have piped in then headed to the spa area to take a shower using those 6 shower heads I dont think I ever was cleaner. (lol) It made the rest of the night relaxing. DreadPirateRobert Posted April 19, 2004 #21 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I think at one time or another my wife has had at least one of everything. The question is always what will cost more, jewelry or spa. Not complaining though, she is worth it. Most of the time she does massages , cut, color and styling. The other posters were wise to warn you to watch out for the upselling. It can be pretty strong. Wife says most of the products are high quality but quite expensive. Windjammer Fantome May 1988 ? thebird Posted April 19, 2004 Author #22 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Pirateover40, WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I WAS CHOSING A HUSBAND?! You're 'tops' in my book! I don't think many men (at least the ones I have to be around) understand that the spa is the ULTIMATE in indulgence for us ladies, and (it will put us in a REALLY good mood...hmm...) It really gets my goat that you go to the spa to relax and refresh, and THEN the spa workers blow your high - which is what they would have done to me, if I hadn't been prepared for them. Thanks to y'all's warnings, I already have a letter for Carnival prepared (in my head) stating that I would have loved to use the spa services more, but the spa personnel badgering me to buy things incessantly, ultimately kept me from frequenting the spa as much as I would have liked. I will only draft the letter if I had this experience - upon my return. High quality, huh? I will have to check that out! Thanks again. thebird Posted April 19, 2004 Author #23 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Oh,yeah, to the possible flamers: That letter would NOT be to get anything free. thebird Posted April 20, 2004 Author #25 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Allrightythen, It's been 48 hours since I e-mailed Carnival with the request. I did receive an initial e-mail from them telling me that it was being turned over to a representative for handling. I have always heard that they get back to you within 24 hours. How long should I wait until sending another one? (I would have waited a couple more days, unless y'all tell me otherwise.)
