Spa - what do you recommend having done for yourself ?

Ms Bird,

Don't get the idea that the spa staff are constantly in your face. From what my wife says they will provide ample opportunities to purchase the products they use on you during your session there. My wife has a pretty low tolerance for upselling and while they reach her threshold of annoyance it doesn't stop her from having a good time, or from going back again, and again.

Thanks for the "props" No telling where I was when you were looking for a husband icon_smile.gif

My theory has always been you can't expect them to act like a princess if you don't treat 'em that way.

Cheers!

Last year when I was on the Glory I had the fragpani(sp) scalp, neck & shoulder massage. It was heaven! I think it was only about $30-$40 including tip and she didn't try to sell me anything. Later in the week they had a spa sampler 3 services for $50. I had a scalp massage, facial & repolish on my nails. I didn't care for the facial, my face felt oily instead of clean, but the scalp massage was nice. She showed me a brochure & circled the products she had used. I just took the book & said I'd think about it, no real pressure then either. Maybe the spa services are beginning to realize what a turn off the high pressure is.

On the Glory in March I decided to let the girl know up front that I too was in that line of work (esthetician) and already had all kinds of products for facials and such. That didn't stop the sales pitch, that girl was GOOD lol. She tried to sell me $700 worth of products, but said I could "get away" with just the circled items which came to only $400. I tried to give her back her clipboard twice..lol, she just didn't want to give up. I then had to get a little serious with a smile on my face and said "as I told you, I am not buying any products". That finally worked! I saw someone post once that they start out the service by telling them that their tip depends on them not trying to sell them products. I will tip anyway, and I've never had a bad facial or pedicure on a ship. But I really don't like the ending when the sales pitch begins! Does anyone know if they are paid a commission on the sales?

until my next spa experience lol

Cheryl, THAT'S IT!!!

I don't know why I didn't think of that, considering I have done it many times in the past.

I don't know this for fact but am guessing that the ladies who work in the spa receive a minimum salary and rely heavily on sales commissions. I'm certain they aren't Carnival employees but work for the company which has the concession.

$700 eh? That is ambitious. I think my DW usually averages about $150.

OK, tongue in cheek here, are the sales people like the ones at the car wash? You drove in wanting a car wash and they get credit for whatever else you sign up for or buy? I really want to try the hot stone treatment does anyone know about it?

I heard about the hot stone treatment that sometimes you may get burned since the stones are so hot.

I absolutely love the Frangipanni treatment. I'm not sure I'm spelling it right, but if you look at the menu or ask for the "innexpensive scalp treatment" they should mention something that sounds like the word I spelled in the first line! :D

It costs less than $30 without tip and is something I indulge in, if it's available, on every cruise I go on. They use essential oils and rub them into your scalp and then use the Elemis milk lotion to give you a neck and shoulder massage with it. I'm telling you it's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually try to schedule in the morning on a sea day and then leave the oils in my hair with a hat on out by the pool. It's so relaxing and the best part is it doesn't cost very much! My husband has even had it done and he loved it as well.

I hope my next cruise offers it...I'll be on it this time next week!

Happy cruising to all! :)
