St. Maarten

We will be in St. Maarten from 7 am to 2 pm with all aboard at 1 pm.  We were wondering if we should do things on our own or purchase an excursion.  Some of the excursions are 6 hours long, which doesn't make much sense to me.  We would love to do one of the zip line tours but how can you do a 6 hour excursion when you only have 6 hours from docking to all aboard? Any recommendations?

Thank you

If the ship is offering the zip line tour then it should work out fine since they won't sail away without passengers on an excursion booked through the ship but if it's booked on your own then definitely don't do it. We're going for the first time in November and at this point I think we're just going to do our own thing with cabs.

There is a new Zip Line that is located between the docks and shopping area. It is called Pelican Peak.  Look for the blue building and walk towards it.  That is where the desk is located for paying (if not done ahead of time online) and also the fitting and pick up area.  They have small lockers that are free to use.  It was quite the ride down!
