stitchintime Posted January 29, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2006 Could anyone tell me if they have taken a land taxi to Medano Beach rather than a water taxi. I am interested in the amount of time it takes to get there from the tender pier and what hotel you were dropped off at. Is it a long walk from the hotel or drop off point to the beach? From what I understand the water taxis will be too hard to get off and on for a family member. Can you please share your experiences?
Bob7 Posted January 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2006 Yes it can be tricky getting out of the water taxis, they are like 15-20 foot lake fishing boats with awnings over top. They can't go up on the beach so you step out in about a foot of water (if you're wearing good sandals or shoes that shouldn't get soaked, take them off first). Ppl on the ship told of seeing a lady who was not nimble fall into the surf getting out of the taxi. The drivers will often help you if you want, or if you appear unable, we saw this going on from our beach lounger. We saw one cool driver who got down on his hands and knees beside the boat so she could step on his back into the water, he got a tip for that. The water taxis come and go all the time, tons of them, like gondolas in Italy. By land cab it's $6, and only takes about 5-10 minutes from the tender dock. You get out right at whichever resort you ask for on Medano Beach, the Melia is nice to walk through, and it's a nice short walk through the lobby and pool area to the beach. If you want a lounger at the Melia, by the pool or beach, tip the pool kiosk girl and ask her to get you one and she will set you up, it's free for cruisers. -Bob
