canadian cruising couple Posted February 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2006 Just wondering if the balcony doors will stay open in their own, or should I bring a bungee cord or something? 9 more days till the Mariner..... :)
rjg41 Posted February 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2006 They are sliding glass doors that will stay open by themselves.
lsiparadise Posted February 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Just be careful when the balcony door is open and you try to open the hall door.
Epaul3 Posted February 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Balcony doors will stay open by themselves, however, leaving the door open will cause the air conditioner in your room to not work properly.
mspink98 Posted February 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Fact or fiction that a magnet will fool the AC into thinking that the door is closed? We wouldn't do it much, but might if we're having cocktails on the balcony and need to listen for the door or the phone. We'll be on Mariner. canadian cruising couple Posted February 3, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Last year on Carnival Glory, the A/c (or could you call it that?!) didn't seem to make ANY difference whatsoever. Not sure if it will be the same on the Mariner, but I would much rather have the fresh air (hopefully no smokers near me!) at night. And what's this about a magnet? happywife Posted February 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2006 The door will lock open in any position (just put the handle in the opposite direction). But, like the previous post, be very careful when your balcony door is open and someone is going in or out of the room. There is quite a draft. Someone could get hurt or something could get broken. And, yes our atttendant told us a story about a couple that left their balcony door open all night and woke up in the morning with water dripping all over the bed and floor from the AC unit. We left it open for short periods of time and once at night(only about 1") and did not have a problem.
WhiteSoxFan Posted February 3, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2006 When we were on the AOS three years ago we left the door open at night but we would turn the thermostat up so the A/C didn't run. I prefer the fresh air to the A/C any day.

This time of year, you won't have to worry about the AC at night. It is definitely cool enough to be comfortable with just the breeze.
allisons Posted February 3, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 3, 2006 We sleep with our balcony door open every night on every cruise! If you have a cabin on the side of the ship, the balcony door will stay open, because the ship rocks from side to side. If you have a cabin on the aft of the ship, the balcony door will roll open and closed. Therefore, we use the table from the balcony to keep the door open all night. SPGryphon Posted February 3, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Indeed... We have lost many an item from our vanity when we forgot the balcony was open and someone opened the cabin door. :p We've never had a problem with the door sliding closed on the side or aft. Like happywife said, you can always lock the door into whatever position you like. The one thing I'm not sure about is the corner aft cabins....at least on the Voyager class the corner aft cabins (deck 9) had swinging doors.
