elvira326 Posted February 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Is there any way to be in communication with my teenager if we split up? Will cell phones work? Beepers? Walkie/Talkies? Thanks for your advice
obnurse Posted February 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2006 We used walkie talkies....they worked pretty well, although sometimes not, depending on how far apart we were, but overall they were a great convenience.
TexasFyre Posted February 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2006 the only problem with that is finding a clear channel.
springtxbill Posted February 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2006 If the teenager does not want to be found they can always say the walkie talkie did not work.
Trevoli Posted February 4, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2006 A teenager would NEVER do that. I'm sure that if a teenager had not heard from their parents in 30 minutes, they'd race all over the ship, tracking them down, just to check in. AZPam Posted February 4, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2006 We always made our teenagers check in with us every so often. We would also make a final sweep of the ship before going to bed to see if they were at where they said they were. Never had a problem, but we could always trust our kids too. We used the walk talkies when they were younger and they still thought that was a fun thing to have. As they got a bit older, the walkie talkies just weren't cool. matt32703 Posted February 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Walkie talkies work .. but finding an empty channel can be a problem. I find them annoying, myself. The best bet, like Pam said, is to simply have a periodic checkin. We have our teen boys check in about every 2 hours. They have a general idea about where we will be and we have the same of them. If they cannot find us, we have them go back to their cabin and write a quick note saying something to the effect of "It's 4pm, checking in, going to the arcade and/or to get pizza". We leave messages for them as well. Honestly, the majority of the time we will find at least one of them in the cabin taking a nap. Hope this helps.
