noblepa Posted December 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2019 We're sailing on the Z on Jan. 3. I've never played blackjack in a casino, but I've always wanted to try. I don't remember if it was on HAL, but on at least one cruise I was on, the first day or two, there was a table open to play at $1 per hand. After the third night, all the tables went to $5 per hand. At $5 per hand, you can lose a lot of money (at least a lot to me) in very short order. This is pretty expensive learning curve. Does HAL have $1 tables for all or part of the cruise? Does HAL use multiple decks of cards? I assume they do, to discourage card-counting. Do they use continuous shuffling machines?
DaveOKC Posted December 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Some of the casinos have BJ machines, with decent rules. Can play these for $1. Machines are Video Poker with BJ options.

I used to be able to use a simple card carding system, but that was 40 years ago! Now with multiple decks and sometimes short pay on BJ ($6 for $5 bet), it simply does not work. Plus, being on a ship with limited space and tables, a card counter would stand out!
