tjsharktank Posted February 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2006 I was planning on booking a tour with one of the tour operators in Ocho Rios (probably A-Z). The tour operators all say I need to book excursions like the dolphin swim through the cruise line but that they can take me on the tour, including to the dolphin cove. When I called Carnival to inquire about this, I asked them (because I'm a first time cruiser) how it all worked - would I get a ticket for the excursion? Would I be able to use it with the tour operator or is it only valid if I take the tour with Carnival? They basically said I couldn't find out until I was on the ship because every island is different. I'm assuming because all the tour operators say we can do it, that is how it's done but I'm uneasy about it because I've never done it before and can't get a straight answer from Carnival. I know others on this board have toured with independent operators and I was wondering how you handled this situation?
serene56 Posted February 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Some tours you cant book using a private vendor because they are under contract with Carnival. Some like the dolphin swims are only offered on the ship because they only have a very few spots to sell. Check carnivals web page to see if infact it is offered. (it will be under excursions. Register your cruise for the main page. up top on the right hand corner click on my profile..once in there go to ADD a booking.. put your booking information there. Once that is completed there will be excursions you can buy now before you cruise by going into the cruise details.
cruisermpaul Posted February 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2006 If you are determined to go on the dolphin excursion in Ocho Rios I would recommend purchasing thru Carnival. It will sell out quickly - maybe even before your cruise begins.
billsgirl Posted February 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2006 I would purchase through carnival since its your first cruise. Things can be a little confusing when you first get off the ship. If you are with carnival they will be sure you get where you need to go. We booked all excursions with carnival on our first cruise, mainly to ease our 'confusion'..it probably was more expensive but it was worth it to me for peace of mind.
