Has anyone ever tried Rhum Agricole .

"Yo Ho Ho--buy a Bottle of Rum. But not just any rum, look for Rhum Agricole from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Look for the blue label of Coeur de Canne—Rhum Agricole Blanc. It's our favorite and you'll quickly see why."

I plan to stock up next chance I get.

I was never a rum drinker, but since my first visit to Guadeloupe in 1984 and subsequent trips to Martinique, I have become a confirmed advocate of rhum agricole. It has so much aroma and flavor. You will find many varieties and alcoholic strengths available. The white rhum to which you referred is best for mixed drinks, especially the Martiniquai 'ti punch (rhum, a little cane syrup and a LITTLE bit of lime--no ice if you are a native. Also look for rhum agricole vieux -- aged rhum, that can be as delicious as any cognac and drunk as such, after dinner as a digestif. Do stock up. You can find some brands in the U.S. and Canada - St. James and Clement. In the islands, my favorite white rhums are: La Favorite, Trois Rivieres, Bologne and Pere Labat. For old rhum, get the oldest you can afford; Clement, Depaz, or J. M. Sante!

Don't forget Brinley Gold from St. Kitts. I recently bought a bottle of Coffee Rum there and it is unbelievably smooth. Really tastes like a liqueur rather than a rum, without the syrupy consistancy of most liqueurs.....

Not expensive, and very tasty.....

Of course there is still the Brinley Gold Vanilla Rum which when blended with fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, and ice is to die for....:)

Hard to find in the States and expensive here, a great souvenir of a beautiful Island.
