cruise-a-holic Posted November 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2020 Curious on the experience of guide dog users on Regent Ships. Acceptance, relief areas etc.
Belfast Taxman Posted November 8, 2020 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) According to the Regent Terms and Conditions the presence of dogs onboard is strictly limited to guide dogs or “service animals”. You would need to advise Regent of the dog’s presence at the time of booking, otherwise they reserve the right to withhold embarkation to you and the dog. You will also be liable for any damage caused by the dog, including a cleaning charge. I understand from a previous thread that they provide a litter tray for in-cabin use. Needless to say that the dog has to remain in the cabin unless escorting the guest. These rules only apply if the cruise embarks or disembarks from a US or UK port, otherwise you cannot bring the dog on board at all. Dogs are unlikely to be accepted in many countries for excursions but I don’t know the precise rules. You also have to provide for all the dog’s food and medication Edited November 8, 2020 by Belfast Taxman
fairbourne Posted November 8, 2020 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2020 Cruise-a-holic - if you haven't seen this thread (link below), please have a look over there for all the info you will ever need about taking a guide dog/service dog on a cruise. I don't know if anyone on there has cruised specifically with Regent but they are a very friendly bunch and will help you if they can. It is a long thread, started by the much-missed, recently passed "Wizard of Roz", and her then service dog Brenda, back in 2007, so no-one will be offended if you ask questions to save scrolling through it all. Many of the posters have travelled widely with their service dogs. https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/topic/551529-cruising-with-a-service-dogeverything-you-ever-wanted-to-know/

We are pretty familiar with federal laws regarding service animals ( in our case it is a guide dog for our blind son) we have been on multiple cruises on different cruise lines with his dogs. But he has never sailed with us on Regent. We are a little concerned with information sent to our TA regarding a relief area. My wife and I have been on Regent multiple times and wanted to take our son. So I was hoping to get input from past Regent passengers that have had service dogs along. We have had a guide dog on several different cruise lines but hope to talk to others regarding their experiences with guide dogs on Regent.
