Hilton - Galveston

Can someone please tell me what "The Strand" in Galveston is? How far from the Hilton is it? If we need to drive there, is there ample parking?

If we only have a few daytime hours in Galveston, what would you recommend that we do? What if we only have one evening, what do you recommend? We will be two adults, no kids.

Thanks!

The Strand is a street in Galveston with old buildings that have up been updated and there are restaurants and cute shops. A really neat place to walk around in the evening, usually lots of people strolling and the parking is mostly on the street except for one parking lot at the upper end. The streel runs parallel to Harborside Drive (ship dock) and is close to the restaurants by the pier (walking distance). It is not close to the Hilton but nothing is very far on the island. I think you will enjoy the evening.

The Hilton on Seawall is only 10 min. from the Strand.

http://www.galveston.com/webcams/ BJ is right, the Strand is one of the best examples of Iron Facade Architecture in the US. There are many shops from tourist Ts to nice boutiques (Morgan's and Atrium). One very good restaurant Luigi's 24th and Strand for Italian. You are also right by the Texas Seaport Museum with the Tall Ship Elissa http://www.galvestonhistory.org/

Or, go out to Moody Gardens a world class attraction with rain forest, 3D IMAX, and aquarium in pyramids.

Gaido's (family owned) 39th and Seawall offers the best seafood on the island.

Enjoy Galveston
