tipping question

I'm aware that Princess will assess $10.00 per day per person tips for cruise ship staff. Does this cover the driver handling transfer from Houston to Galveston if arranged through the cuiseline? Any other staff not covered by the voluntary daily assessment? I know that 15% is added to bar tabs, but I don't want to miss anyone if their efforts deserve a tip.

The driver's are probably not included in the per diem tips. Usually they don't even work for the line, but a company contracted by them. Concierges, wait staff in the extra cost restaurants, spa employees, excursion guides and drivers (on cruiseline-booked excursions), casino workers, room service delivery people, and anyone you just wish to give something extra to are not covered.

It kind of becomes obvious who is looking for tips, as far as tour guides, drivers, etc. goes. They will often have a sign up saying "Tips Welcome" or something like that, and one tour we were on passed around a hat for tips.

That would kind of make me not want to tip the person. I have no problem tipping people who deserve it. But when you go out of the way to ask for a tip I think that's getting to be a little rude.

When I was younger I worked for tips...I gave excellent service with a smile all the time. Some people were very demanding and some were very nice...but I know if I did not get a tip...and in Florida it happens a lot, I did not make but a $1.05 and hour and that was taxed. Please take into consideration that those people really depend on their tips. Perhaps the ones that ask for a tip have been stiffed so often they want to make sure that they get something. If their service is good tip them...not prejudge them for trying to make a living...Just wanted you to see the other side of the story...I truely don't believe they are trying to be rude. Have a great cruise.
