Ft Lauderdale...to Miami...help!!

We are flying in to Ft. Lauderdale one day prior to our cruise. We will be staying at the Homewood Suites. Homewood Suites offers free shuttle service from the Miami airport to the hotel. How do you suggest we get to the hotel. Take a taxi from Ft. Lauderdale to the hotel OR take a taxi from Ft. Lauderdale to the Miami airport and then take the hotel shuttle OR rent a car and drive the rental from Ft. Lauderdale to the Miami airport and then take the hotel shuttle. Has anyone ever done this? Any and all advice is welcome!

I'd rent a car and drive. That way you are mobile in Miami. Then return the car to the airport or port location and take a shuttle to the ship. Just be sure the rental car company runs a shuttle when and where you need. The best source of information is the rental car company itself. For details on rental locations at the Port of Miami you will have to check with Budget, Hertz, Avis, Alamo.

Step out the door of the airport marked Ground Transportation and go to the first kiosk you see - you can either get a shuttle for about $18/pp or a towncar for about $65 plus tip. If you want to reserve something ahead of time go to FLL's website and look for ground transportation there you will see your different options. With a little clicking around you can reserve a car at your appointed arrival time. We did this last year and it worked out great. TriCounty limo service even picked us up at the pier to return to the airport for $80 tip included.
