Cover when UK FCDO says no travel on international cruises

Hi there. This is one for cruisers living in the UK. I’m hoping to join Celebrity Apex at the end of August around the Greek Islands. Has anyone managed to find travel insurance where the FCDO is still advising against international cruise travel despite Greece and Cyprus as countries being ok for land based policies.

Hi Stu, a number of us have tried, and have initially been told that purchasing an FCDO extension for countries also covers cruising, but when we’ve asked for this in writing, and they have needed to check with underwriters they have come back and said they cannot cover us.  If you do find one please let us know?

Will do. Let’s hope the FCDO advice is updated next week as the gov travel review said it would follow the amber status etc.

Some info - clearly not advice but my finding from a few calls and emails. Cedartree seem to offer policies underwritten by AXA. They say the key driver on their policy is the country FCDO advise and not the cruise specific advice.

Also appears that Cover For You able to help UK cruisers wanting an international cruise.

I have a Staysure policy mothballed but am thinking of booking an Iberian cruise for later in the year, i'm going to contact them and see what the score is and report back.

Great news, which revalidates most travel insurance cover for int cruises. 

 

Not helpful that some news commentators are interpreting this change as only applying to cruises originating from England, going to foreign ports and returning to England !
