Confused about COVID testing protocol.

I wonder if someone could clarify the Pre cruise COVID testing protocol please. The website states that a “ medically observed “ PCR or Lateral flow test should be carried out.Does this mean that the test should be supervised by a medically qualified person ?? If so can the home test kits not be used ?? What kind of test are other UK residents using ??

If it is a U.K. sailing they will test you at the port before you embark for free. This is as long as you have had both vaccine doses. I think you may be looking at the US protocols.
