Florida Question

We are from the UK and I would like some assistance please.

Later this year we are cruising from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale arriving in FL on Sunday. Our flight back to the UK (arranged privately) does not depart until late Monday evening. In view of the time that we leave the ship (early morning!) I am tempted to go Miami and stay in an hotel on the beach there and then taxi to airport, so we have more or less two days free.

Does anyone have any views on this please or would it be better to stay in Fort Lauderdale and taxi/shuttle to Miami airport?

Also how much would a taxi cost on a Sunday morning from the cruise terminal to Miami please?

Also any views on hotels please?

Any assistance would be greatfully received.

Thanks

It would be helpful to know the dates you will be arriving in Fort Lauderdale, as that can greatly affect hotel prices. I like your thinking though. South Beach is a great attraction, and by being there, you will have an easier trip to the Miami Airport. Expect to pay about $75 for a cab before tip. You may be able to book a private car for roughly the same amount. Check with http://www.floridalimo.com and http://www.larryslimo.com

I did the Canal just a few months ago. What ship are you on?

I will also try to find TrentS's thread with links to all the Miami area hotels.

That's great advice Ernie, but OP is not transferring from FLL to MIA, and Super Shuttle only operates with an airport at one end of the trip. The OP wants to go from Port Everglades to a hotel in Miami. Then 2 days later to MIA.

Thanks for all your suggestions. We are on the Infinity sailing from LA on 5 November and arriving in FLL on Sunday 19 November. As I said we do not leave for the UK until late Monday evening.

Based on a lot of positive comments on this website and Tripadvisor we are spending our two pre-cruise nights at the Coast Long Hotel in Long Beach.

Now I shall start my reviewing of the hotels - thanks again.

I highly suggest you stay on the beach in South Beach.

That week is tricky because November 19th is the start of our Thanksgiving week which could drive prices up a little.

My suggestions for hotels in South Beach:

Moderate:

Courtyard By Marriott

Doubletree Surfcomber

The South Seas

The Marseilles

The Cardoza

The Hotel

Expensive:

The National

The Loews

The Raleigh

Very Expensive:

The Delano

The Tides

The Shore Club

The Victor

The Ritz-Carlton

The Setai

try southbeachcasa.com - the have a condo in the Casa Grande Suite Hotel. It's right on the beach, about 7th, everything is walking distance. Have chairs and umbrellas on the beach. It's a hotel, but has condos with individual owners, and but if you go by the individual owners they are much cheaper then going through the hotel. They didn't have a room available the dates we needed, but I heard they are about $160 night in season - and are wonderful accomodations. We have a studio for $210/night same hotel, and thought we had a great deal. See tripadvisor.com if you want more information on the hotel - or in fact any other hotel. That's how we found out about their site.
