CeaJay Posted November 13, 2021 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2021 Could anyone tell me if the water in cabin bathrooms is likely to be softened? I want to take a garment steamer with me and I can’t use hard water in it.
Aulanis Posted November 13, 2021 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2021 Maybe read this? https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2320674-hard-or-soft-water-on-ship/?do=findComment&comment=49884967 Basically you cant be certain but never mind the water you will need to ask your cruise line if you can take a steamer on board. Many electrical items are not allowed.
mollymoo12 Posted November 13, 2021 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) I thought irons, clothes steamers and extension leads were not allowed. I put clothes on hangars and put in the bathroom with the shower running very hot. Edited November 13, 2021 by mollymoo12
Thejuggler Posted November 15, 2021 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2021 What makes water hard or soft is the presence of natural minerals. Hard water is found in chalky areas of the UK. When boiled the calcium is released and thats the limescale. Cruise ship water has no natural minerals as it is distilled sea water, i.e. sea water is boiled and the steam condensed to create potable water. So it isn't hard or soft in the true sense, its distilled like water from tumble dryers. All the above is irrelevant as steamers aren't allowed on board!
