A celebration of some kind in midwinter is a human tradition - so I am glad you respond in kind. I love cruising the Med mainly because of the wonderful ancient sites, museums, palaces and churches. I am not religious but seeing the wonderful artefacts that humankind have built over the ages is fascinating. From your previous posts you do seem to avoid many of the offerings onboard Viking that others enjoy. Perhaps you love the off ship experience. Do you have any Viking cruises scheduled ? We've only got Norway booked, after cancellations and covid chaos, we're looking at booking something in the Med. Until the chaos recedes a bit we're trying to limit things to short haul single country. We view Viking ships as being a 4 or 5 star hotel in a ship, the things we don't do (organised activities, shows, the spa, lengthy evening meals) are the same things we don't do when staying in hotels on land. We generally make our own arrangements ashore, but only so we can do exactly what we want to, we go on Viking organised excursions if they appeal. We're with you regarding historical sites, we like the on board lectures, we put them on the room TV and watch them when convenient. On board we like to sit in a bar and chat to crew and other passengers, or are on the aquavit terrace or our balcony. We know others like to have activities organised for them, or the band doing things, we check we can easily be elsewhere without impacting our holiday before booking, then when on board we leave them to it.
