M2ice Posted February 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2022 Is there a decent sundry shop on board? With it being cold/flu season in addition to covid is a place to get cough meds etc if we catch a bug or do we need ot bring a supply along with us? Fla Mike Posted February 12, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2022 There is, but you'll pay at least triple for whatever you need. We bring a small kit with us with anticipated needs such as Tylenol, Band-Aids, Neosporin, Alka-Seltzer, Bonine, etc. You get the hint. Always good to bring your own
BikiniBlonde Posted February 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2022 When I cruised on Meraviglia in September, no pain meds or antihistamines were sold in ship stores. I went to the ship’s medical center, and the doctor said I would have to see him (a $150 visit, he said) just to get Advil. This was because of Covid. I don’t know if this has changed. “Just get some in port,” the doctor recommended. The next port was Ocho Rios. There was not a sundry shop within walking distance. I went in several stores, begging. I could barely walk. I finally found a shopkeeper who sold packs of 2 pills. I bought all 5 packs she had. I could have taken a cab, but was in too much pain. (I brought about a dozen Advil with me, went through them quickly.) Finally, in Nassau, I got to a drugstore with ibuprofen. Turns out I had cancer in my spine. I doubt anyone else will have such pain, but I repeat this story often on these boards, to warn folks to pack the full arsenal of meds.
ChattTenn Posted February 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2022 After one bad experience years ago (a cold) and had to spend part of the day to look for the over counter medicine. Every cruise after that we always carry with us a small case with everything from cough drops to first aid stuffs and extra maintenance medicines (in case got stuck somewhere with covid) because the stuffs on the ship store are very expensive. Rare Morgsmom Posted February 15, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2022 It is correct that you cannot buy cold meds or aspirin/motrin/tylenol onboard so that guests can try to "hide" symptoms onboard. Thus it is even more important to bring your own.
