hunnibee72 Posted April 16, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2022 Hi fellow cruisers, We are set to sail on the Carnival Magic on Sept 5, 2022 to Bermuda and my boyfriend was thinking of bringing his metal detector with him to use on the beach. HAs anyone done this and is it an issue? Is it something that is allowed to be brought on board? Thank You Kindly Melissa
Moviela Posted April 16, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2022 You are allowed to bring a metal detector aboard, you just cannot use it aboard. Why would you want to anyhow because the ship is mostly metal. You can use it ashore subject to local regulations. In Mexico they are allowed on public beaches. In Bermuda they can only be used on public beaches, AND the operator must have a permit from the park department. It cannot be used around historic sites, forts, and lime pits as they want to preserve any artifacts.

Thank You Kindly Melissa Yes Melissa, it is clearly listed in the Carnival FAQs, metal detectors are permitted aboard only for use in ports. If he chooses to bring one, I'd print out the list from the Carnival site because the port agents may not be aware they are permitted and are rarely brought. hunnibee72 Posted April 16, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted April 16, 2022 Thank you all for your help. If the above poster is correct then it may just be easier to leave it home rather than go through the hassle of getting it through the port agents and then getting a permit from the Bermuda parks dept. He will just have to enjoy his hobby on all beaches of Long Island where we live 🙂
