ready set go Posted February 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2006 Our ship, Hal Rotterdam arrives on April 5th, 8 a.m. We fly home that evening. We are looking for a one day tour that covers as much of Rio as possible. We might be as many as 6 couples with luggage. Are there any suggestions as to private tour companies that give pretty inclusive tours to accommodate all of us?
Jane110 Posted February 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2006 I recommend Pedro (aka Peter) from www.privatetours.com.br He's delightful and knowledgable. He's a Rio native and speaks english as well as many other languages. He'll create whatever kind of tour you'd like. Jane
Hemi001 Posted February 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2006 You can't go wrong with Pedro, we had a wonderful day and a half touring with him and he takes you to many off the beaten track sights. Say hello to him from Ken and Gloria. You will not be disapointed if you try him out.
A Knitter Posted February 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2006 We were in Rio during the Rolling Stones Concert and did 3 days of touring in a day and a half. Highly, Highly recommended. Peter did everything but tuck us in bed. Very reputable. Maria and Rainy send their love to him.
med4bike Posted February 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Assuming Pedro and his staff are not available, what other tour company would you recommend?
ready set go Posted February 28, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Thanks everyone for the feedback. I e-mailed him and I am waiting to hear back from him. Sounds good. I hope we can work out something.
A Knitter Posted February 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 28, 2006 I only know Peter but I would contact him immediately to reserve the day. He might suggest another tour guide. Good luck.
Guest slrman Posted March 13, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2006 The two things that are really "must sees" in Rio are Corcavado, (the statue of Christ) and Pão de Açucar, (Sugar Loaf). The latter is the cable car ride that has been in a couple of movies. It truly is an amazing trip and well worth the time. Most people want to see the beach at Copacabana, but it is really just another beach and not as clean as most. The Copacabana Palace, across the street from it is a magnificent hotel and worth a tour if you have the time, but I wouldn't skip either of the first two to see it. A walk down the beaches from Leblon to Copacabana is also entertaining if you have an hour or two to spare. Even in daylight, I would advise anyone to take care as tourists have been robbed on the beaches in broad daylight. Traveling in a group, even three or four is OK but do not display expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash and hang on to your cameras, purses, etc. In other words, take the same care you would in any large city like New York, London, Berlin, and the like. Enjoy and welcome to Brazil! (Bem-Vindo)
Splinter Posted March 14, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2006 We booked a private van tour of Rio through http://www.southstartours.com and had an excellent driver and guide and a wonderful day. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We also used them the next day to take us to Petropolis and then to the airport.
