Royal Palace in Caserta

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We'll be in Naples i July, and we'd like to visit the Royal Palace in Caserta. It looks like Caserta is only about 15-20 miles from Naples, so it should be possible.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Ideally, we'd like to hire someone that could take us to both Caserta and Pompeii, i we can fit it in to about 8 hours..

Thanks!

Gosh you have really jogged my memory. It was in 1979 but I am sure that much has not changed. The Palazzo Real in Caserta was a real surprize. It was one of the earliest palaces that I had seen AND I expected to see a more ornate building.I was not impressed by the art work and it surely needed a good dusting. (This was my opinion) but it has a marvelous main staircase.I found the grounds and the gardens worth the trip. There is also an aqueduct. You may wish to take a carriage ride to the top gardens.

I believe that it is not far from Pompeii.Just make sure of the hours for visitors at both sites.
