Can I claim the 21 percent VAT refund at the port for valuable purchases such as jewellery before boarding the cruise ship?

Yes, you can do it right at the airport. You need the proper forms issued by the shop plus you need to be carrying the items with you. They do look to make sure you are exporting them! We actually got the cash in hand, no need to wait for it to appear on your credit card or whatever. I believe the booth was just after you clear the security and before boarding the flight. Look for the signs.....not hard to find.

I just noticed that you are leaving the port , not at the airport. I hope someone else has an answer to that one! We left Argentina by air so it was not a problem. Sorry about the confusion.

I could not find one at the port, but the amount I was to receive was small so I did not try very hard to find it.

We took care of our VAT at the cruise ship port. It was very easy and quick.

Hi Everybody...VAT refunds are generally applied to larger ticket items like jewellry, something you can carry with you......any concerns about the VAT computer terminals being connected or linked :eek: to the various Customs terminals when it comes to making our Declaration as we re enter our Home countries.

 

Just a thought. :confused:

 

Would appreciate any ideas on the subject.
