Celebrity ship tours

Recommended Posts

Does Celebrity have ship tours for the passengers? This is something they had on Royal Carribean the last time we cruised but we passed on it.

Now cruising with a 5 year old son, I'm sure he would love to do it if it is available. Like a bridge and engine room tour...

not engine and the real workings of the ship.

As a ship's activity, it will be listed in the first day's daily. You just meet as a group, at a designated location, a few hours before sailaway and one of the staff walks you around the ship to see the location of the lounges, theater, dining room, pool, spa, etc. There is no lingering to speak of, although the person leading the group will answer questions. It's just a quick walk through to give you a general orientation.

If there are bridge, backstage theater or galley tours it is by special invitation for Captain's club members (Select and Elite) as one of the perks for former sailers (as opposed to sailors). I understand that since 9/11 these are rare. These invitations are delivered to the cabins and the activity is not listed in the daily. It would be comparable to a special wine tasting by invitation delivered to the cabin, as opposed to a "for fee" wine tasting offered in the activity list of the daily.

After your 5 year old has experienced the lifeboat drill, perhaps you'd take him back to the promenade deck to view the winches and chains etc. supporting and controlling the lowering of the life boats. Likewise, you can point out to the child the "viewing platform" off the bridge which extends on both sides of the ship so that the stabilizers can be viewed. For him to get an idea of what this looks like to the crew, you can show him the port hole in the floor in the buffet area aft.

They do give tours, but it's of the public rooms only, like the lounges, theater and restaurant, things I'm sure a 5 year old won't care about. Because of security concerns, they don't allow kids or even adults on the bridge or in the operational areas of the ship. The galley tour is by invitation only for those in the big suites and select and elite members.
