Did you get a credit during the last one day sale?

If you did, I need your help. I am trying to convince my TA to give me a credit - this has been going on since the last one day sale on April 29 (back and forth between me, the TA and Carnival).

The search feature is messed up so I can't search for that date. But I recall many, many posts from people who had gotten credits for the price drop that day, after making final payment. If this is you, please let me know your initials, the amount of the credit, and if you would share it, the name of your travel agent. You can email this to me at ponyboat@hotmail.com

I had been so happy with my TA, even provided her name to some people here. But once that final payment got made, she wrote me off. I talked to Clark Howard on the radio today (consumer advocate) and he told me to take it up with the owner of the agency. I am doing that, but it would help if I had examples of people who got credits on that day.

Thank you so much if you can help me!

I thought that I read in the fine print on the email sent to me by Carnival for the one day sale that it was for new bookings only. It also stated that if you cancelled and rebooked you would still not get the discount.

Gordon:

That is true. But I got a credit during the March one day sale, and many others posted that they got credits during the April sale. Some TAs, and even Carnival in some cases, were making concessions and giving credits despite the fine print. I am trying to find those people now so I can resolve this with my TA.

Thanks!

I called Carnival directly once the price on our cruise dropped on their website. We had made our final payment but the cruise line said they would lower the rate if the agent who booked me requested it. Carnival cautioned me that if they TA did it, it would lower there commission. I was not surprised when Cruise Brothers told me no.

Also, remember that when checking online, Carnivals website or others, you often do not see some specials, such as resident and some past guest specials. On the 9/11 Glory, Cat8B is at $929 plus taxes. If you check the Carnival Past Guest specials on the website there is nothing listed. However, there is a past guest special, Cat 8A upgraded to best available up to 8E for $822 including port charges and taxes. This is almost $300 in savings. The 9/25 sailing has an 8a, upgraded to 8b ,past guest special for $849.
I always call Carnival to get the best prices. I am now also using a Carnival PVP who has been very helpful. You don't have to use a PVP to get these prices.
Good luck everybody!

If they won't give you a credit (it would only be a ship board credit after final payment anyway) then ask for an upgrade. I got an upgrade after the last one day sale because I had already made final payment. I went from a 5A to a 7A. I was fine with that but everyone is different. At least if you get upgraded you lose that 'I got cheated' or 'ripped off' feeling.
Let us know how you make out with this.
Good luck

I tried to get an upgrade but was also told (and I HAD already seen it in print, so I wasn't surprised or upset) that it did not apply to cruises already booked, or cancelled and rebooked. I'm o.k. with that, since it clearly stated that in the 1st place.

IMHO, the secret to getting a credit or upgrade is having a good TA. (or PVP if you book directly with Carnival) They have to be willing to ask in the first place. I'm convinced some TA's see the fine print and won't even try. Thanks to the advice of this board, for our cruise (our first) I asked the TAs upfront before booking if they would adjust prices or give shipboard credits and/or upgrades in the case of price drops. I avoided the ones that said no.

While it wasn't due to the one day sale, the price dropped about a month before sailing. I was able to get upgraded from an 8D to a suite guarantee, others reported receiving shipboard credits, and one reported being sol. That person was able to get an upgrade only after being a little pushy with his TA and telling them of the credits and upgrades others were getting.

Sure the fine print says "good on new bookings only" but there's a lot of customer good will value in bending that rule. I guess the bottom line is if your TA asks and it makes good financial sense for Carnival, you'll get the upgrade or credit.
