mnsawyer Posted May 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Trying to do some research on Dominica tours..Carnival offers so many. Which ones are the best? Would enjoy the river tubing but have heard it's a little pricey (aren't they all?). What about Wacky Rollers Rain Forest Safari? Does anyone have prices for these tours? The website just list $ and $$, etc. Would like an overview of the island and maybe a stop or two. Not interested in hiking for hours in the wet and mud in the rain forest. How about the snorkeling and kayak tour?? Want something fun too. Anyone's experiences would be appreciated! Thanks.
janey829 Posted May 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We did the rainforest and Emerald Pool tour. You rode in a van and made two stops prior to the pool, one at a roadside overlook where you just got out for about 5 minutes to take pictures, and one at a little place with a gift shop and bar, again to take pictures of the scenery. When you got to the Emerald Pool, there was a very short and easy 15 minute walk through the rainforest and you get to this beautiful waterfall/pool where if you choose, you can climb behind the waterfall and swim in the pool. We did, and it was wonderful! The trip to the pool was on very winding roads and you got to see a lot of the countryside of the island. I really liked it. I haven't heard about any of the other tours, though, so I don't know how to compare it. Destiny 5/9/04 Victory 4/1/
hstrybuf Posted May 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We did the snorkeling tour to the Champagne Reef. I don't know if Carnival offers that one because we were on a Princess ship at the time. Bubbles come up from underground volcanic activity and the water is warmer at those points, thus attracting a large variety of sealife. mnsawyer Posted May 21, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Janey: If you don't mind me asking, how much was the tour per person? Also, what time? Isn't that tour 4-5 hours long? What about lunch, drinks, etc.?
janey829 Posted May 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2004 If I remember correctly it was $35 per person. The tour was 2 1/2 hours long and they offered one at 9 am and one at 1:30 pm. No lunch, and you got just one complimentary drink at one of the stops. There is another tour that includes stops at the Emerald pool that is longer. I think it may be called Dominica's Favorites or something. We just decided to do a shorter one and have a relaxing morning on the ship instead. kkorman Posted May 21, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I did a river hike on NCL, it was the best tour I have been on, but physically demanding as we had to walk, swim, jump on slippery surfaces. I would do it again in a second. Of course, I found out that I could have paid $15 rather than the $40 if I just got off the ship and looked for the tour there. crisp1 Posted May 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I recommend getting a 'local' cab, just outside the security gate, the Dominican's are very nice. You can get to see the falls, emerald pool, botanical gardens, and stop at Mr Nices' stand , all at your pace, and for a lot less than the cruise lines excursions To Sea, or not, to See.
