How early can you check your bags onto the ship in San Francisco - Pier 27?

A friend has offered to drop us of at Pier 27 on the day of our cruise, but it will probably have to be early in the morning.  How early are the porters at the pier to accept checked bags?

Are you currently onboard the Royal?  If so, would you mind asking how many guests and crew are expected on the 10/16/22 sailing?  Also, was the boarding process smooth and quick?
