PammyJeanB Posted March 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2006 I've just picked up a travel iron with steamer for our cruise, and just viewed a thread that mentioned that they are not allowed. Any advise appreciated:)
parody Posted March 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2006 Two weeks ago on the Coral Princess, there were irons and ironing boards in the laundry rooms. Thus, I don't see a need to bring ones own iron.
Bonnie J. Posted March 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2006 If the ship has a passnger laundry, it usually has an iron there for passengers. But one time the iron never really got hot- went to another laundry. We have taken a travel iron. the room steward doesn't care but the ships are concerned they are fire hazards. We have never been questioned about an iron in our checked luggage but someday we might be now that everything is xrayed. We also hang things in the bathroom for shower steam. Everybody has packed clothes so if I have a wrinkle here or there, that's the way it is.
RevSmith Posted March 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2006 There is a reason no travel irons...the require a great deal of electricity...therefore they could stress the electricity system in the cabin and they are a fire hazzard...therefore possibably jepordizing the saftey of other passengers...also if they x-ray or find your iron in your luggage they will take it away. It's a rule. The right thing to do is obey it!
Cotton Posted March 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2006 I'm sure all the cruiselines have the same policy. Carnival, for instance, clearly states NO irons. A travel steamer is ok, but not the combo. Do yourself and everybody a favor and return the iron/steamer to the store and pick up a bottle of Downey Wrinkle Release instead.:D (I use the shower steam method myself.) Carnival has passenger laundry rooms - washers, dryers, ironing boards, and irons.
