Royal Up working for anyone?

Three sailings in a row booked on Explorer. 5 night, 8 night and 6 night. Royal Up on 1 and 3 but not the middle one. Friends on same cruise and same cabin type were able to RU. Go figure.

We had the same experience recently.  Three bookings, two different ships.  One accepted a login/bids, but sent no emails.  One booking # (the sailing seemed to have open cabins) refused to ever accept a login at all, one allowed bids and sent marketing emails.  This sounds like a bug (a very reliable bug is jokingly called a "feature").

We can speculate how the RU software could possibly work.  It could take a feed of all new bookings with cabin grade.  Except if you already paid for the top suite, it then dips into the inventory, and allows /sends out suggested offers for several higher grades.  The offers go in a queue per grade.  A guess is someone on each ship (or HQ) has final say over the inventory.  They log in and accept (presumably the highest) bid for any open cabins.   This triggers a cabin change process, and notifies/charges the guest.

When they accept an offer, unless you are in the lowest inside grade, your old cabin is then open to have a bid accepted.   This would be an automated version of what the main reservation call center (or customer service onboard) could do manually- but it is proactive.  Years ago they would call out or send emails to do this?

If they have a wide open sailing, they might accept bids earlier to free up cheaper cabins.  I'm not sure if that is a thing any more- or whether people still buy on price- a few of us still do.
