mmbrad02 Posted November 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) We are not brand new to Nassau (this will make our fourth stop) but we are not super adventurous by nature, so the 2 times we did get off in Nassau, we walked down to Senor Frogs and back basically. Stopped in some stores along the way. This time I want to do something different. We are traveling with a total of 9, but this would only be my immediate party of 3. My husband and I are 43 and our daughter is 12. We could book a Carnival Excursion, that's not totally out of the question, but also considered a walk to the Queen's Staircase and/or the Graycliff for the Art of Chocolate and Factory tour. Is walking doable (we are all healthy, no mobility issues) or would we need a taxi/transportation? Would these be relatively safe places to walk to from the cruise port? soccermom4 Posted November 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2022 We'll be in Nassau next week and I plan to try following this walking tour. Sounds like it's not too far and we love to walk as opposed to taking a taxi, Haven't been to Nassau before - so looking forward to sun and warmth. https://redshoesredwine.com/nassau-walking-guide/

If you think about it would you report back on how safe you felt on this plan?
soccermom4 Posted November 29, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2022 Sure thing! Not planning on spending 6 hours - and there are also some things we'll skip - but figured it was a good start. Also stopping in Freeport - but finding nothing of interest to do there (don't want to buy an excursion). Probably just get off, walk around a little and get back on. emeraldead Posted December 7, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Walking totally doable if you don'thave mobility issues, and you'll pass the governors mansion as well. Just be careful as the streets are narrow and curvy. It's safe enough but as you pass the main drag with all the jewelry pushers keep to a group and alert. soccermom4 Posted December 23, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2022 Returned from our very fun cruise that included Nassau. We did follow the map that I linked up above. If you are fit, it's a great way to spend most of a day. We went clockwise around the map - so started by heading towards the Queens Staircase (which wasn't as obvious as you might think). First real stop was the fort - which cost a few dollars to tour (plus a tip to the "tour guide") but was a nice view of Nassau. Then we went down the Queens Staircase (tipping another "guide" to tell us the history). Much better to go down that up! Our one challenge was that some of the roads on the map do not have real sidewalks - and are quite narrow. You really have to be careful - especially because people drive on the left side of the road. We stopped to admire the new/old cathedral and a local gentleman gave us a tour. He then escorted us to the Rum factory for the little free tour. We don't drink rum, but it was still interesting and had extremely clean restrooms! We did not go in the chocolate or cigar places, but there was a neat Art Space/shopping area across the street from them where I bought some nice souvenirs from local artists. Much better than the stuff on Bay Street. We ended up at Junkanoo Beach where we waded for a bit and enjoyed the sun and sand. There were 6 ships in port so the area around the port was crazy. Away from it, where we walked was much quieter. We felt totally safe (except for the traffic) the whole time.
