Beginner Scuba in Grand Cayman?

Has anyone done this excursion? How was it? Was it too much talk and instruction? Did you do it in very shallow wate...up to 6-8 feet might just be my max. Did you feel comfortable with it or were you anxious? Was the reef/fish good viewing? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Don't know the particulars of the ship-offered excursion, but I was in Cayman a few months ago and did the beginners scuba at Eden Rock, a very short walk from downtown where the ships drop you off. Take a right from the docks, walk about 1/4 mile, shop is on right.

Class was 1 hour, then shallow water training in waist deep water, then off to the reef right off shore. Guide took us down about 40 feet and it was spectacular for us first timers. Underwater about 30-35 mins.

You may want to call them in advance to secure a reservation. Check for website. Cost $80. Well worth it!
