Cuban money question

Could anyone tell me what currency they have used when visiting Cuba?

The lady at the  tui store said we have to change our money when we get there but we've just booked a car ride/excursion and our driver is accepting uk Sterling as payment. 

We've looked online and euros,Canadian dollars and their own Cuban pesos amongst others are also accepted!?.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

It’s some years since I’ve been to Cuba but the currency used by visitors then was the Cuban Convertable Peso. You should be able to get that inside the port. I have no doubt you will be informed on board ship.

When we visited it was the Cuban Convertable Peso, you can only get it in Cuba.

When we went some years ago on a land holiday they were really glad of the Green Back

W spent two weeks on a land based holiday, a week in Havana, and the second week in Varadero.  I wouldn’t visit again, however if dealing with street vendors, taxi drivers etc,the US dollar is the currency you want,….If you are dealing with proper shops, bars, restaurants etc local peso.

Cruised there in March. The classic car drivers accepted our US dollars but said pounds and Euros were preferable. For local purchases you can get Cuban Peso at the exchange in the cruise terminal.
