Big Nugget Excursion in Skagway

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has done the Big Nugget Excursion in Skagway (or Gold Fever & Alaskan Sled Dog which is similar). We had initially booked the Musher Camp experience as my 9yos requested to do dog sledding. I saw the Big Nugget which offers Dog Sledding and Gold mining which he would also love. I just cant tell if you get to ride on the dog sled on the Big Nugget excursion. Can anyone tell me whether you actually get to ride on the "sled" or if you are just watching? It might be a deal breaker if he cant actually take a ride.

Thanks for any guidance.

I was just looking at this excursion too. It packs a lot into the tour and sounds like a lot of fun. But the way I took it was they hook up the team and do a practice lap around the track for us to watch. But I’m also curious to see the answers here. Maybe I read it wrong.

For anyone interested, I emailed the tour company and here is their response.

Thank you so much for reaching out to us and for thinking of us! However, in regard to your question about riding on the sled for the dog demonstration, the guests do NOT get to actually ride on the sled. There is just a demonstration by one of our Iditarod mushers on a gravel track that we have located on-site. We have structured our dog demonstration this way so that it is more accessible to everyone also groups/families. If you look you will see that the tours where you actually get to ride the dog sleds are much more expensive. However, no worries as the guests do get the same kind of interaction with the dogs & of course our puppies as you would with the other tours just without the ride. Hope this helps!

Looks like no actual ride but still sounds like fun.
