Firstly, stick with Gatwick - much easier than Heathrow. Then contact a company like Woodford Chauffeurs who will drive you down to DOver. If you have a day in hand, hire a car at Gatwick and drive to Kent (Canterbury) for a lovely night and then drop the car at Dover
Petert Posted March 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Mike, We have sailed out of Dover several times after arriving in both Heathrow and Gatwick. Arriving in Gatwick is by far the better option. Gatwick is a smaller, and much less crowded airport, and is much easier to get around. There is a rail road station right in the airport at Gatwick, that will take you to Dover with one stop enroute. This is a cheaper and reliable means of traveling to Dover. One trip we got a group of five Cruise Critic couples, and hired a bus from Dover to pick us up at the terminal and drop us at the Churchill Hotel in Dover. If you can get some fellow passengers from the Celebrity Roll Call this can be an excellent way to travel. The cruise line transfers are good, but are somewhat expensive. We used the rail connection from Heathrow, taxi to London and rail to Harwich, and found the British rail service is to be very good. Would highly recommend the Gatwick airport over Heathrow.
