What limits are there on changing the passengers booked?

I saw a very low price on a HAL cruise a few weeks ago after they shifted their schedule. It was at night right after they changed the schedule for the ship next winter, so I figured it was because the ship showed up as empty still.

I grabbed it because I figured I probably wouldn’t be able to go but there had to be someone among my family or friends who could go. (I couldn’t call folks in the middle of the night to see if they wanted it )

When I called to change names I found that I could only change one name.

Is this standard, do other lines allow changing of both names?

(My wife couldn’t go, so I’m up taking my brother)

Typically, the individual making the actual booking may not be changed out, otherwise you are dealing with an outright cancellation.

Name changes for accompanying passengers may only be processed up to a certain point before penalties are assessed, usually around final payment.

Perhaps something else as well. Watch this space.

BigDave: I don't know about now, but in 12/02 our DD decided 2 weeks before her honeymoon cruise, that was a gift from her father and I, she did not want to go! Well, chickie, step aside, cause I was gonna be on that ship! All TA did was call Carnival, change name to DH and I and charged us $35 per person to change names. Now, I have read a lot of controversy (sp) about Carnival not wanting to do that now. BUT, that was on a group cruise. All the logical situations came up, but Carnival was being stubborn about changing names. Like everyone said, "It's not like the room isn't sold or paid for, so whats the big deal?" Never did get an answer. SOOOOO to answer your question, not sure what Carnival might do. Might depend on who answers the phone?
