Are there still assigned MDR dining times and assigned restaurants on E-class?

I’ve read reports that anybody can go to any of the 4 MDR’s at any time, but it seems that reservations are still showing either 6:00, 8:30, or anytime as choices. Can anybody recently off an E-class ship comment on how things are now? Does choice of MDR even matter if you can order off any menu?
 

Also, any advice for the best time or MDR to go to avoid wait times?

Answer to your title question: no.

 

Appearing at opening (5:30) will result in being seated. But we had little to no wait on Apex in December. One night we got a pager and waited maybe 5 minutes.
