Southampton port area shopping

Recommended Posts

We will be taking the cruise line shuttle from Heathrow to Southampton.  After checking in, I want to go to a local store and buy soda/wine to bring on the ship (Princess allows some) - Is there any stores within easy walking of the port?

There are no shops within the port . And that's a problem with a ship's bus transfer - they don't usually stop en-route.

Princess mainly use Ocean Cruise Terminal (berth 46) or Mayflower Terminal (105/6)

If you don't know which, check

Nearest from Ocean Terminal is the Co-op supermarket in High Street,  a ten-minute walk.

Nearest from Mayflower Terminal is the Majestic Wine Warehouse opposite the rail station, but it's a 20-minute walk.

(there's no restrictions on walking out of or into the port at Southampton)

There's no "duty-free on arrival" at Heathrow.

There is a "World Duty-Free " shop after the luggage hall / customs in some (all?) Heathrow terminals, but those shops aren't duty-free, they're small and the only alcohol I've seen in there is spirits (whiskey, rum, etc)

If you can trust your suitcases, your packing, your airline & its luggage-handlers  your best bet might be to buy before you travel.

There are M&S Simply Food grocery stores in the arrivals halls at Heathrow terminals 2, 3 and 5, after baggage reclaim and customs. I’ve never looked but they may sell a limited selection of wine. They’ll certainly have some sodas.

But as @John Bull correctly says, the options around the cruise terminals in Southampton are very limited and involve a fairly grim walk through the industrial port area.

We're staying at Moxy (in Southampton) prior to our cruise. Is there a store in the mall or nearby to buy wine?

Next door to the Moxy is the Premier Inn.

If you want to be lazy, next door to the Premier Inn is a Co-op Welcome grocery store with a passable selection

If you want more up-market wines, just past the Welcome grocery store, on the opposite side of the road, is an entrance to the big West Quay Mall. Marks & Spencer in the mall has a wine section.

Or for probably best value and a wide range, 300 yards further on at the second roundabout (traffic circle) opposite the coach station you'll see an ASDA grocery store sign at the top of a multi-storey parking lot - go in the white portico doors and take the elevator up to the store

Or since you've gone that far, for the widest selection of wines in the city and knowledgeable staff, beyond the coach station and opposite the train station is Majestic Wine Warehouse.

Wow, that's amazing information on a wide selection of places to consider. Thank you so much!
