cruisinthedaysby Posted March 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Does this excursion live up to its billing as one of best tours to do in the Caribbean? Would you recommend this tour and when is the best time to go?
chrysalis Posted March 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2006 from what I have read there, it is consistantly rated as one of the very best excursions.....
Noneeds4me Posted March 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We went on this excursion in St. Maarten (Oct. of '04), and it was awesome! The crew were very fun, friendly, and professional. The excursion is very well run, and definately one you'll remember. Also, there is no experience necessary ;-) which was a benefit to us!
cabana Posted March 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2006 I agree it is a good time. When we go back next year we will be doing again. When I first said I'd like to do this my wife was "I don't know". But she is just as much looking forward to it as I. I give it two thumbs up.:)

Sheffie Posted March 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We did this excursion and had a fabulous time! We were lucky enough to draw the Stars and Stripes, and we beat True North! My DH was a grinder and I was a winch wench. They have jobs for everyone, from harder jobs to timekeeper and barkeeper. When the race was over, one man asked if he could steer the boat and the let him. After a while I asked if I could, too, and I got to sail Stars and Striped back into the harbor. It was the thrill of a lifetime! Here are pictures from that excursion: http://community.webshots.com/album/528943965HpvFnj
karen2cruz Posted March 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We had a great time on our Golden cruise. DH was a grinder and I was also a winch wench. DH had such a great time he has taken up sailing as a hobby now.
Guest caribcruzin Posted March 12, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We just did this excursion on our Feb 25 Caribbean Princess cruise and it was one of our very favorites of all our excursions ever! Well worth the money!
DebP Posted March 12, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We are not experienced sailors, but healthy and adventurous. Would that excursion work for a family with a 13 and 15 year old?
Noneeds4me Posted March 12, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2006 In our opinions, this excursion would absolutely work for your 13 & 15 year olds. They'd have a blast! We were also on the Stars & Stripes, and beat the True North as well! ;-))
cruisincousin Posted March 12, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2006 My husband did it about 10 years ago and had a wonderful time. They all came back like drenched rats but had big smiles on their faces. By all means do it - there were a couple of kids on it too and they loved it. He was on True North and beat Stars & Stripes!!! rustydaveyboy Posted March 12, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2006 Yes definitely - my brother and I were on this excursion 2 weeks ago and we had a fantasic time. It depends on what you class as a good trip but we really liked it because unlike most coach tours this was on the open water, there was a sense of adventure, we could actively participate and we got the chance to try out sailing on a fantastic yacht. We were assigned Stars and Stripes and we beat True North in the race!!! One thing I have to mention is that if you really want to get the most out of the experience be prepared to have a good upper body workout. I was the youngest guy onboard but I thoroughly enjoyed assuming the role of a primary grinder. It made the buffet so much more worthwhile back on the Golden Princess!!! RevSmith Posted March 12, 2006 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2006 One of our most exciting tours...so much fun and so much work, it was like you were really part of the American Cup race...the best!
claroquesi Posted March 12, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2006 DH went on Feb 23rd on the Canadian boat. It broke twice and ran up on some coral. Not the best but this does seem to be an anomoly, for what it`s worth. respectfully submitted.
cabana Posted March 12, 2006 #15 Share Posted March 12, 2006 Seems like the Stars and Stripes win most of the time. Next time I have a plan for the Canada II or True North which ever boat we are on.
