woody14h Posted March 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We asked when we were on the Mercury. Told no as it takes too long to play and not profitable for the house. God forbid there would be an unprofitable operation on cruise ship.
frchteaze Posted March 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2006 So far hold'em is only available on a few Princess ships and one or two other lines (forget which ones, sorry). There are older threads here with specific ship names if you search. From what I have researched so far, no Celebrity ships have hold'em yet. :(

wv4891 Posted March 12, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2006 The reason I ask what Texas holdem is is that Celebrity has a poker game called Caribbean Stud, which is very popular on the cruiseships now.
MrLee Posted March 12, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2006 The reason I ask what Texas holdem is is that Celebrity has a poker game called Caribbean Stud, which is very popular on the cruiseships now. Texas Holdem is sort of a variation on 7 card stud where you are playing against the other players at the table. Caribbean Stud you play against just the dealer. Texas Holdem is huge right now with games on ESPN and the Travel Channel if you'ld like to see how it's played.
jimvern1966 Posted March 12, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted March 12, 2006 I like both games, but there usually isn't enough tables offering Caribbean Stud Poker. And Burnsie is right, I am the gambler in the family. Of course I only play what I can afford to lose.... no high stake games for me, I would rather play longer.... and hopefully win a little along the way. Anyone know if there is a slot tournie on board the Zenith? Thanks for the responses.
sillystringtheory Posted March 13, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 13, 2006 So what's to stop you from bringing your own chips and cards and starting a game up in some lounge area of the ship?
BarnacleBoy Posted March 13, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 13, 2006 I was on the Zenith last month and there was no Texas Hold'Em in the Casino, but there is a Card Room with the big oval tables on the Fantasy Deck next to the Library and Michael's Club. I saw people playing in there. Board games and playing cards are available in that room, but no chips. They just used a bunch of change.
shofer Posted March 13, 2006 #13 Share Posted March 13, 2006 We were on the 1/15 sailing to Hawaii on Summit and the Caribbean Stud table was empty most of the time. More people were playing 3 Card Poker because the dealer didn't have to qualify for you to be paid on your "pairs plus" bet. And he only needed a queen to qualify. This game was more player friendly. Desertbelle Posted March 13, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 13, 2006 You don't need to bring chips when you have a casino filled with them! Easy enough to walk into the casino and buy whatever you need. On one of our cruises we played with quarters. :)
TEXASMUNK Posted March 13, 2006 #15 Share Posted March 13, 2006 House takes their 10% rake, but the downside to the game is that all other games, you lose to the casino. In Hold EM you lose to a fellow passenger, this actually brought out some hard feelings during the week. One of the considerations that concerns a cruise line. thomasale Posted March 13, 2006 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2006 what Jim said is my thought exactly. That is why I don't play the game even in Vegas and I'm not cooped up with those people the way I am on the ship.
jimvern1966 Posted March 14, 2006 Author #17 Share Posted March 14, 2006 And that is why I never play the Don't Pass Line in Craps. I hate to bet that someone is going to lose. I want everyone to win. Lets face it, it is always more fun to gamble when your winning. Love to see the dealer bust in Black Jack too!!!! :)
Desertbelle Posted March 14, 2006 #18 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Oh please, if you can't take losing money without hating someone over it, then you shouldn't be gambling. I, for one, would ALWAYS rather see my gambling losses go to another person than some big corporation who always has plenty of money. Unless the person cheated they outplayed me or got lucky.....that's poker!!
