SunSandDrinkInHand Posted March 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2006 I would appreciate any help/suggestions/comments for two 22 year-old first-time cruisers (Rhapsody of the Seas on May 21st). Here's what we're planning....... 1. Cozumel: 9 hours; Paradise Beach (including the 2-hour snorkel tour), maybe hit up Carlos N' Charlies and/or Senor Frogs if we have time 2. Key West: We're here for about a full day. Planning on parasailing in late morning / early afternoon; bar crawl down Duval St. in the afternoon/evening 3. Grand Cayman: 9 hours; Going to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville....Any other suggestions? We'd appreciate any advice! :)
caribbean dreams Posted March 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2006 Trust me time will fly at Margaritaville and after a few drinks you probably won't want to go anywhere else, but if you decide to, there is a good place to snorkel right next to the pier. it is free and there is a small beach area with lounge chairs. bruce-r Posted March 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2006 If you are going to GCM, then the signature thing to do is a visit to Stingray City, but not with the large number of "new friends" you'll have if you go with the ship's excursion. Please don't think I'm being critical, but if you could be just a little more descriptive in the subject line of an initial post, you will probably get a little better response. Sheffie Posted March 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2006 I sure would do Stingray City before going to Margaritaville; you can drink anywhere, but you will not have the fabulous time of snorkeling with stingrays in the wild anywhere else. Here are pictures from our day in GC: http://community.webshots.com/album/530801710NJTzFf If you decide to go there, and want to have a better experience than with a ship's excursion, here is a list of private vendors in GC that I have gathered here on CC. We used Captain Bryan's Buccaneer and had a fabulous time. jenjgg Posted March 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2006 We absolutely love this island! It is one of our favorites! We like to go on a tour of Stingray City first thing. We like the "Stingray Sandbar" tour. We've done another stingray city tour and it was fine too, but a little larger with more people, which was more time taken, and less in the water. The wild, but tame, stingrays are the most amazing creatures ever, and an experience not forgotten. Then, we head back to the ship, eat our (paid for) lunch on board, maybe cocktails if a steamy day, then grab our beach stuff. We take a little taxi or bus to seven mile island, which is one of the best in the caribbean. It is so warm, beautiful, clean, etc. After the beach, we taxi back to town, and shop, eat and drink. Of course we buy some rum cakes to take home as well. This is one of the cleanest, friendliest, and most beautiful places you'll ever visit. Enjoy!!! Daisy May Posted March 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2006 SunSandDrink: We will be on this ship the week before you. We are taking our two sons with us. I'll tell them to leave you some beer for your cruise. As for what to do. Key West: Check your times. We have done this cruise 4 times and we always dock at 3:00 in the afternoon. If that's the case, you might want to take the sunset sail on the Fury Catamarans. That's fun. The Pub Crawl is fun. Rick's is our favorite bar there in KW. They have a new singer, Uncle Bob, he's great. Grand Cayman: Definitely go to Stinray City. And I wholeheartedly agree with the other posters, go with Capt. Bryan. We have used him before and will use him again in May. They also have Senor Frogs in GC. It doesn't look like Maragaritaville will be open yet. Have a great time
