Last year we were in Santiago two nights before our cruise and stayed at the Ritz Carlton. The hotel arranged a car and driver for us to Valpariso. We really enjoyed the trip. Our driver took us thru the wine country and also toured around Valpariso and surroumding areas before taking us to the ship.

In 2002 when we did this on Mercury, we caught a bus from the downtown Santiago Bus station. The seats are reserved, so it is never overcrowded, and it is a nice intercity bus. There is plenty of luggage room since most passengers don't carry much. You will have to catch a cab to the pier

"muelle" in Valparaiso from the bus station, but the bus trip from Santiago cost about $6.00 pp. The trip takes a little over an hour and the buses run quite frequently. The hotel can call and get you the schedules.
