Unfortunately, high winds prevented the ship from going to Messina. Instead, we had a very very mellow At Sea day. After complaining long and hard about the late arrival in Naples, the undisclosed 45 minute water taxi ride to Venice, and missing out on Sicily (land of my ancestors), Viking gave us an apology and some future cruise money. Win-win. We booked another med cruise for next year; Ancient Adriatic Treasures, Venice to Istanbul.

We were staying in Naples, so we purchased the ferry tickets to Capri the day we went.  There was a sizable line to purchase tickets.  The ferry ride is about 30-35 minutes each way, assuming you take the fast ferry.  Capri is beautiful, but always crowded.  To see the town of Capri & take the bus to Ana capri (Strongly suggested, if you go), one needs a good 3-4 hours.  Walk to end of ferry dock and make right, bus station is on your right to purchase tickets to Anacapri.  If time is limited, I would take the bus to Anacapri upon arrival & if you still have time when you return on the bus you can take in the town of Capri. In Anacapri, the chairlift to Monte Solaro (Views are exceptional) is an experience not to be missed.  .PS:  Very few things are cheap on Capri.  VBG
