kids and their on-board IDs

I hadn't thought about this until last night, but how do people manage the ID cards (Sail and Sign, I think, on Carnival) for their (younger) kids? I'm thinking especially when the kids are in the Kid Program (e.g., Camp Carnival). Do the counselors keep the IDs for the kids while they are in the program? Obviously, when they are with us we can carry their cards. What got me thinking about this was reading how on Carnival ships, at least, you can go to the casino and they'll give you a lanyard for it (and punch a hole) -- but wearing the id around the neck is obviously not a great idea all the time for a 7 year old, and ridiculous for a 2 year old. So what have others done?

thanks, cjbg (Conquest in less than 3 weeks!)

we did get lanyards for our kids (7 - 10) before the cruise at the dollar store with fun logos on them. It seemed to work out great. They didn't seem to mind it and for the most part kept them on. Or one of those clip on name tag holders with the plastic sleeve you can slip the card in that.

Our son was 2 when he went on his first cruise, and I carried his Sail & Sign card the whole time. They don't need to have it on them when they are in the kids' program, if that's your worry. We also bought lanyards for the older kids (5 and 9 on their first cruise). It helps to let them choose the design - they feel more attached to it and keep better track of it. On our last cruise, our then-6YO had an Angels baseball lanyard and loved it so much I thought she'd never take it off!!

I kept my 4-year-old's pass with mine the entire time. The only time I needed it was when going ashore and getting back on board. They will not need it for the kid's club, and I'm sure you won't be adding charging priveleges for them... hehehe

Our girl doesn't carry her card, I do. We don't activate her charging priviledges anyway (maybe we will when she's much, much older). When we used to go on Carnival, the kids would wear green bracelets (like hospital ID bracelets) with their name and muster station listed. But our last Carnival cruise was in 2002, so that may have changed.

Good to know they don't need it for Camp Carnival -- I hadn't known that. Also, I didn't know they had a difference between S&S with charging privs and those without... I was worried he'd have the card with him and go all crazy getting sodas -- he doesn't get them at home! Good to know he won't be able to just follow the crowd!

thanks to everyone for your responses!
