Guarantee room & bidding on upgrade

Hi…I have a guarantee room booked, and have also placed a bid on a higher cabin. What is the most likely process for getting our room…ie…do they give the guarantee first, and then sometime closer to sailing they decide whether or not to accept my bid for the upgrade…so two parts? Also, has anyone bid on a room category and been given a higher category? I guess same question with the guarantee.

We always do guarantee rooms and always get A or B locations. 

 

Bidding is usually still open when we receive our room assignments.

Do you know typically how much before you sail you get your guarantee room assignment? Just wondering if it would be too late to bid on an upgrade.

It can be up to the day you sail to get your guarantee room assignment. Of course, it can be earlier, but same day is the worst case scenario.

The whole thing is too much like gambling for me.  I would be a nervous wreck trying to second guess the suits at Princess.
